My name is Bronwyn Rodrigues. I am the CEO and founder of ZAP HUB.
A month ago, I launched a campaign asking South Africans to help cover the legal costs of my High Court fight against the PPRA. Today, I want to talk less about the case itself, and more about the people who have shown up for it.
A Quick Recap, for Anyone Just Joining Us
If you haven't been following the case, we've covered the full story — the urgent application filed in the Johannesburg High Court, the dismissal on urgency rather than merit, and the roughly R440,000 in costs awarded against us — in our earlier post, "The PPRA Court Case, Continued: Bronwyn Rodrigues Speaks Out Live." This post picks up from there, focused on the campaign itself.
The Goal We're Working Toward
We set out to raise R440,000 — the amount needed to cover the court's costs order, and to fund an appeal if we choose to bring one. Every donor who has come forward since the campaign launched a month ago has moved us closer to that number, whether they gave R100 or R1,000.
We're not there yet. But a campaign like this isn't measured only in rand — it's measured in how many people decide this fight is worth backing. So far, that number keeps growing, and we're grateful for every person who's added to it.
What People Are Saying
The donations have come in small and large — from R100 to R1,000 — but it's the messages alongside them that have carried me through the hardest weeks of this. Donors have thanked us for bringing the PPRA's enforcement gaps into public view. Others have written that the industry has needed someone to challenge a system they feel has failed practitioners for years. Several simply said: don't give up.
One donor put it plainly: commercial urgency is a real cost, and it depends who's carrying it. Another said they could only give a little, but wanted to acknowledge what it's cost us to expose these issues publicly. That kind of solidarity, from people who don't know me personally, is exactly what's kept this campaign — and me — going.
What This Means for Me
Any proceeds raised beyond the R440,000 goal will go to an organisation that continues this fight for South African consumers.
This fight has drained my finances, my energy, and almost my hope. The costs awarded against me aren't just a number — they're the difference between ZAP HUB surviving or closing, and between me staying in South Africa or losing what I've spent years trying to build here.
If You Can't Donate
Share the campaign. Leave a message of encouragement. Every share puts this in front of someone who might be able to help, and every message reminds me why this fight is worth having.
Thank you to everyone who has already given, shared, or simply reached out. This is not a fight I can win alone — and so far, I haven't had to.
